I'm a french guy using SME server for personal use. Here is a sum-up of my configuration :
- Server is a desktop compaq EVO with Celeron @1.6 GHz + 512MB of memory + 250MB internal HD Computer. chosen for his price (ebay...) and his compacity.
- 350 MB external USB disk.
- SME server is used in gateway mode between my adsl box and wifi access point
- Wifi-N access point : Belkin N1 Wireless Router F5D8233
- Printer : Canon Pixma IP5500
- Scanner : Canon Snapscan 1212U
SME server is used for these tasks :
- storing all personal datas (documents, photos, video, ... )
- most important, managing automatically all backups using affa on USB disk
