I like the idea of putting the category at the top as well as the bottom. Now to investigate is it template driven or wiki driven..Trex (talk) 17:02, 2 February 2013 (MST)

It looks like it is template based. Wherever you put the 'noinclude' family tag, it always ends up at the bottom. Cactus has been wiki Yoda for a long time, we could ask him to save ourselves the trouble of re-inventing the wheel? If we would like to do ask Cactus, please let me know for Cactus has indicated he is _very_ busy. RequestedDeletion (talk) 19:09, 2 February 2013 (MST)

btw, you can put Category links anywhere you want, just not neatly formatted as it is at the bottom by default mediawiki style. This is the help Category RequestedDeletion (talk) 19:38, 2 February 2013 (MST)

Trouble is if you start manually positioning categories they'll end up in different places on different pages and it becomes a mess. I feel what is needed is a more consistent category structure, the category pages themselves organise any sub-categories and the pages quite well.

You can add text to the Category: page to explain that categories use/purpose or even add an index of the top level categories via a template. For example see the IPS - Equipment category. All the source code of that page has in it is {{Category List}}. That is a manually created template but as it doesn't change very often, if at all, that isn't a serious maintenace problem.
