DAR2 can do a disaster recovery backup job (ie a full system backup similar/identical to e-smith-backup), but can also be configured to do other partial backup jobs, with or without a mysql dump.

Backup with dar/e-smith-backup is really a one job only backup (ie the full system backup), which runs a full backup say weekly and then incremental backups daily.

I think there is room/reasons for them to co-exist as they do cover different functionality.
